Development Squad

New for the 2019/20 season!

Welcome to the page of the SUMHC Development Squad. I'm Euan Pryce, a 2nd year Mathematics Student and the captain of the illustrious Development Squad, otherwise known as the 5th XI, for the 2021/22 season.

The team plays in the Hampshire 7th Division every Saturday. Last season after a lot of changes in the squad we were able to finish in a mid-table position and escape relegation. This season I am looking to improve on the good work that was done last season and continue to build on the team to create a team that can compete for the higher positions in the league.

The development squad has a great team attitude and spirit and was one of the reasons joining SUMHC was made so easy for me when I first came to university. Anyone of any ability is welcome to play for the team whether you’ve played hockey your whole life or if you’ve never picked up a hockey stick before, everyone is given equal opportunity to play in the team. We have training every Tuesday evening, which is useful for everyone to practice their skills and to learn how the game is played.

As well as being able to get to know your fellow wessex rangers on the pitch, you’ll be able to meet the whole club on our socials every Wednesday evening. These socials are a great opportunity to meet people from all over the university and have given me some of the best memories of my time in Southampton. A lot of different types of socials are organized (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) so everyone can be involved. On a Saturday night we usually have team-based socials which give you a chance to get to know all the other people in your team, sometimes we will mix with other SUMHC teams and the ladies club as well.

If you have any other questions about joining this great club please do not hesitate to contact me at ejp2g18@soton.ac.uk

I look forward to seeing you next year,

Euan Pryce
