As the popular primary school phrase correctly identifies, '1st the worst, 2nd the best.' Well I can confirm that is undoubtedly true. Hi, I'm Ollie Tinson and proud to be the SUMHC 2nd XI captain for the 2021/2022 season. I look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible on board for what will be a fruitful journey as we conquer the England Hockey's Men's South Division 3 and the Men's Western 3A BUCS leagues. With the previous season being almost completely disrupted due to our old friend El Corona, this upcoming season is sure to be worth the wait for all. So, I am pleased to share with you a summary of our action-packed schedule for the new season. Training takes place at our stunning home ground of Wide Line, aka Wembley 2.0, on Monday and Friday nights, with fixtures for BUCS (against other universities) on Wednesdays and England Hockey fixtures on a Saturday. But Ollie, how can it the schedule get better than that you may ask? Well, not only does our BUCS league accommodate for an electric derby against Solent University, but also, to split up this epic timetable of events, we host a social every Wednesday night across Southampton’s fantastic pubs and clubs so you can be sure to meet loads of new people! So if you’re here for hockey, rest assured, there’s plenty of it. Yet if you’re here to have fun, a weekly social and our entertaining intra-mural Sundays are perfect for you. If you feel like there is something you can get out of joining our one-of-a-kind club, I can assure you, you will be welcomed into the Wessex family with open arms as I was last year. Preseason training carries over into fresher’s week so pop down to Wide Lane, drop us a message on Instagram or even to myself; my Insta username is ollietinson. Remember, the earlier you get involved in the club, the more you will get out of it
