2019: Survival in Western 2A & Hampshire Div 2

Hello and welcome to the SUMHC 2XI. I’m Edward Bowen, but everybody calls me Woody; a third year Business student, and I have the honour of being captain of our second team this coming year.

Last year went extremely well for the 2XI, putting in performance after performance against quality teams (including our own first team), culminating in a 3rd place finish in our BUCS league (Universities only) and another third place finish in the Hampshire Saturday league. This of course leaves room for improvement and hopefully means we can kick on and achieve promotion this year - but I’m in no doubt it’s going to be a tough year and that we are going to need to be at our best against every team we face.

One of the highest points of this year as well as most years is our varsity game against Portsmouth. Though we won’t be playing them next year, we left them with a lasting impression as we decimated them 10-0 and I’m sure this year will be even better.

I personally couldn’t recommend being a part of SUMHC enough, and everyone I know who is part of the club would agree it’s one of the best societies to be a part of in university. You get to meet and socialise with some incredible people on our Wednesday night club socials as well as get to know the team better with regular team socials and activities. One of my biggest goals this year is to get everyone more involved in the club and socials is a huge part of that.

Me and the team are excited to get back on the pitch, and can’t wait for you to join us. In the meantime if you have any queries that my vague rambling hasn’t addressed, get in touch with the club and we’ll be happy to clear up any questions you have.
